A thrilling mix of Moroccan gnawa, haunting guembri melodies and krar riffs - with shoots of house and electronica and krautrock grooves - this is YALLA MIKU!
Yalla Miku was initially set up by Bongo Joe founder, Beirut-born Cyril Yeterian (banjo, electric guitar, vocals), and his Cyril Cyril duo bandmate Cyril Bondi (drums and vocals). Having teamed up with label stalwarts Hyperculte, a minimalist electro-pop duo comprising of Simone Aubert (synthesisers, guitar and vocals) and founder of L’Orchèstre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp bassist Vincent Bertholet, the final pieces of the Yalla Miku puzzle were added with contributions from Moroccan guembri player Anouar Baouna, Eritrean krar player Samuel Ades and Algerian darbouka player Ali Bouchaki, all of whom encountered difficult and dangerous journeys to get to Switzerland and all regular participants at Bongo Joe café and store events.
The line-up for their 2025 album and live run still includes Samuel Ades on krar and vocals, and now features Genevan synth maestro Emma Soucharce and award winning bass player Louise Knobil. The result is a thrilling mix of haunting ethio-jazz scales and krar riffs with shoots of house, electronica and alt-pop-krautrock groove. Ultimately it's a testament to the community led, punk approach that many creatives from the Bongo Joe Record label, and beyond, adhere to.’
