We are super excited to have the incredible Saidi Kanda back in the house! Saidi Kanda is award winning Tanzanian multi-instrumentalist, percussionist, vocalist and instrument maker. He plays traditional Tanzania instruments such as zeze, Edungu, Thumb piano and zumali all made by him. He is one of the top Tanzanian percussionists in the world today, having played alongside a host of famous African musicians including Papa Wemba, Koffi Olomide, Sam Mangwana, Remy Ongala and Mose Fanfan. He learnt his craft alongside his griot grandmother called Mua Vita Kanda, who was one of the greatest Folklore singers in Tanzania circa 1934.

His talents were recognised in 1989 when he was awarded WOMAD percussionist of the year. Soon after that he moved to the UK where he has lived ever since, touring around the globe extensively solo and with various bands including Super Matimilla Band, Talakaka, Dad Krama, Baboma Combat and Ubizo with Alan Skidmore.

More recently he has performed at westminister Abbey for the Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh, as well as playing with Grace Jones, Hot Chip Band, Kassai All Stars.
