Relax into ghazal song with Muslim Shaggan.

We’re in the second year of The Mehfil Space events at The Rose Hill - committed to offering quality music from South Asia, The Mehfil Space is delighted to bring you vocal khayal and ghazal singer Muslim Shaggan - singing 'Ambwa', direct from Pakistan.

Muslim Shaggan is a classical vocalist from Lahore, Pakistan, rooted in the Gwalior Gharana tradition. Trained from childhood by his grandfather, Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shaggan, and his uncle, Ustad Qadir Ali Shaggan, he specializes in khayal but also performs thumri, ghazal, kafi, and Sufi kalam.

Drawing from both classical and semi-classical traditions, his work reflects a deep connection to the history of South Asian music while remaining grounded in contemporary expression.

Accompanied only by a tanpura and harmonium, he performs traditional ‘light’ vocal pieces, from thumri to ghazal, showing off what is, fittingly, a light but beautiful voice, and a prodigious technique
— ★★★★ Maria Lord, Songlines Magazine.

He performed at the Houses of Parliament and was interviewed by Songlines Magazine, which reviewed his album Asar and included one of its songs on its "Top of the World" collection.

The concept of mehfil is defined as "a gathering where music or poetry is performed for a small audience in an intimate setting." Every concert becomes a collaborative dialogue, with all musicians collectively shaping the musical journey. This event by The Mehfil Space @mehfilspace — set up by local curator Atiya Gourlay — is presented in collaboration with The Rose Hill and Zeroclassikal.
