Electric Blue Cinema - New York Stories

  • The Rose Hill 70 Rose Hill Terrace Brighton, England, BN1 4JL United Kingdom (map)

Tuesday 19th March | 7pm | £5.20 advance tickets

Electric Blue presents 'Mikey and Nicky' by legendary New York director, playwright and actress Elaine May. Her most deeply nuanced and stylised film, 'Mikey and Nicky' is a harrowing crime drama following the trials and turns of a pair of scheming small-time mobsters over the course of a single evening, as they traverse the complexities of their relationship in the mire of its many contradictions. Starring New American Independent cinema legends, John Cassavetes and Peter Falk, this film is a unforgiving potrayal of two men doomed by their prediliction for immorality, and by the corruption of their self-induglent and inescapible greed. May's persistent lens is an excellent offering of a female perspective on the profound flaws of masculinity, where tactical silence speaks volumes, and egocentric vitriol becomes transformative character study. The film will be preceded by a programme of short experimental films from female directors of the New York underground, considering the female body, punk + sexuality, and post-modern City Symphony, with an introduction from our resident programmers.

Electric Blue is an experimental screening space in Brighton dedicated to presenting avant-garde cinema and unusual relics - from artist-film short programmes to unlikely features. We are invested in platforming marginalised perspectives, archive cinema, and in creating an accessible space for heightened creative conversation and visual collaboration.

This screening is 18+ (TW for offensive language, violence - please contact the event's team with any questions of concern).
