ADLIB III

  • The Rose Hill 70 Rose Hill Terrace Brighton, England, BN1 4JL United Kingdom (map)

Thursday 4th May | 7:30pm | £8 advance tickets

ADLIB is a new arts night centred around experimental music, improvisations and live visuals. This is the third incarnation of ADLIB after two successful events at Brighton's favourite independent arts venue & creative hub, The Rose Hill.

The evening features Robyn Steward (Trumpet & Effects) & Alex Nunn (Guitar & Electronics) from London-based experimental quartet 'Lost Socks' & Brighton's very own Ellie Ford (Harp, Voice & Effects).

They will be collaborating with improvisers & ADLIB co-founders Fred Hills & Andrew Stuart-Buttle (AKA ADDER)

All of this will be interpreted live through the use of generative visual art by Aoife Baxendale. We are so excited for them to join us for this evening.

This is a night for lovers of multi-sensory experience comprised of guitars, horns, loops, drones, manipulated vocals, electronics, harp, violin, drums & generative visuals.

ARTIST INFO:

ROBYN & ALEX (LOST SOCKS)

Formed in the orbit of the Total Refreshment Centre, Hackney, Robyn Steward (trumpet & effects) & Alex Nunn (guitar and electronics) create music that ranges from engrossing ambient soundscapes to free-jazz walls of sound. Together they create abstract cosmic journeys - inviting you to higher planes of consciousness with their groovy and inspiring tunes.

For fans of ambient soundscapes, groovy beats and epic noise alike, their sound has been described variously as ”cafe music from the heart of a dying star” and ”mellow trippy gong groove plinky plonky woo woo with swishy swashy”.

ELLIE FORD

A harpist and vocalist, Ellie Ford pairs her instrument with effects pedals, drum sequencers and loop pedals to push the boundaries of what is possible with her instrument and songwriting. A prolific collaborator, experimenter & co-founder of ADLIB.

"I have ideas to explore, music to make, videos to shoot, things to say and discussions to have. I am constantly learning and evolving. Making music is my life's work"

AOIFE BAXENDALE (LIVE VISUALS)

Aoife Baxendale is a non-binary artist who explores the abstract and surreal through generative art. They use their mathematical skills to create patterns that emerge from complex algorithms and randomness. Their work invites the viewers to find their own meanings and stories in the shapes and colours that they see. Their art is also a way of expressing their own identity and experiences as a non-binary person, and they hope to encourage others to celebrate their own uniqueness as well.
