Synch Pulse - No. 19: Railways

  • The Rose Hill 70 Rose Hill Terrace Brighton, England, BN1 4JL United Kingdom (map)

TUESDAY 21ST OCTOBER 2025 | 7PM | FREE ENTRY

Whether a train spotter or a casual observer, all can acknowledge the striking impact railways have had on the modern world. Filmmakers have sought to capture many of the aspects that hold an enduring aesthetic appeal through different audiovisual techniques within the medium of short film. Including elevated passenger trains, steam, electric and diesel locomotives, coal wagons, and the London to Brighton rail journey - in the 200th anniversary year of the dawn of the railways - Synch Pulse takes the strain to present a left-field, train-themed selection of archive and contemporary shorts, adverts and trailers.

Synch Pulse is a monthly free entry experimental film night featuring a different theme for each programme, represented by archive and contemporary shorts, animations, documentaries, vintage adverts and trailers, and public information films. With a strong emphasis on electronic music and experimental soundtracks, the evenings are compiled and presented by artist, musician and filmmaker Ian Helliwell.
