THIS will be such an amazing evening of music - we cannot recommend this highly enough!! Mikey Kenney is one of those artists whom descriptions do not serve because we can talk about his virtuosic fiddle playing and talk about his exceptional voice and songs, but that still won’t preapare you for the show - gotta see him live! And this time with the epic Hannah Moule (Moulettes) on cello and the EPIC Michael Paul Metcalf on drums. What a line up!!
We always quote Mikey as saying ‘Folk Music is dance music’ - we thoroughly agree!
“Superbly charismatic fiddle playing & once-heard-never-forgotten singing” KLOF Magazine
Mikey Kenney is a highly respected fiddle player, singer, songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist. This liverpudlian troubadour plays a joyful, energetic and thoroughly unique take on trad fiddle music - surreal songwriting, virtuosic violin & brilliant banter
“There are few who seem to embody traditional music in quite the same way” TRADFOLK
Embracing duality, Kenney is very much the musical outsider artist: both an advocate for English and Irish traditional fiddle music and an alternative and progressive music creator, taking in multiple musical influences from psychedelia, bluegrass to jazz and Italian tarantella. He will perform new material from forthcoming album Tiny Little Light, due for release in September 2025, with Michael Paul Metcalfe (drums) and Hannah Miller (cello). With the exception of two instrumentals, this new album is a collection of songs written around original fiddle tunes in keeping with traditional forms but progressive in their arrangement and instrumentation. Kenney considers it his finest work yet and the truest expression of a life devoted to his craft.
“Mikey Kenney is an artist for whom music is a calling, not a career choice…a singular and inspiring talent... unfettered by expectations of geography or genre, and a wanderer of worlds both seen and invisible, Kenney is an authentic free spirit.”
Aside from his reputation for his original work, Kenney is also very much in demand as a collaborator and session musician for his fiddle-playing and string arranging and has worked with the likes of: Vinicio Capossela, Alabaster dePlume, Katherine Priddy, Josephine Foster, Bex Burch, Band of Burns, Adam Beattie, Emily Portman, Dominie Hooper, Victor Herrero, Alessandro 'Asso' Stefana, Dan Haywood's New Hawks, Liverpool Céilí Band, Jon Wilks, Johnny Campbell and more.
Support from : SAUSAGE & PENNY DETECTIVE AGENCY
Sausage and Penny retired from service after a gruelling decade under deep cover in a central european wedding band, on the tail of organised music crime. Although they'd only learned to play their instruments for the job, something in the music had taken hold and wouldn't let them rest. So they turned the tables, setting up an independent agency as a cover for investigations of a musical kind... now they've left the volcanic island where they've been based and they're on the road again.
The lights have come on, and gone out again, but they can see in the dark. Their repertoire has been described as 'a restless poltergeist rattling through the manuscript archives, playfully fleeing the stern exorcist of tradition, going to ground in Pan's tangled garden where their compositions and improvisations tap seductively at the french windows of consciousness'.
Fanciful descriptions aside, it's true to say that while Sausage and Penny may not have solved the case, they have vital intelligence to share...
