Vula Viel are one of those bands that are almost impossible to categorise because they are only ever breaking new ground. For those of you who missed their electrifying show here before all the craziness hit, make sure you don't miss this one!

Vula Viel are Bex Burch on Gyil (West African Xylophone), Ruth Gollar on bass and Jim Hart on Drums. Band leader Bex Burch trained in percussion infamous Jazz school Guildhall before spending three years with the Dagaaba people of the Upper West Region of Ghana. There she learned music and xylophone making as the apprentice of a master xylophonist Thomas Sekgura before returning to the United Kingdom and forming Vula Viel.

' With Ruth Goller’s punk-edged bass a notable foil to Bex Burch’s flailing gyil and Jim Hart’s polyrhythmic drumming feeding both, the results were often thrilling.' WOMAD 2019 Jazzwise review

'Hang on this is really good' Giles Peterson

'The Music rolls and motors with irresistible momentum..' The Wire

“This band is about bridging divides, beginning with their own.” Jazzwise
